The Foundation's Beginning
The Patrick Shifflett Foundation was born out of Patrick's love of helping others. The Shifflett family realized they could carry on Patrick's legacy and help others as well. There are many people in our own community who could use our help with continuing their education after high school, and the birth of the Patrick Shifflett Foundation is a means to do that.
The Patrick Shifflett Foundation has been created to help provide funding for need-based education and support service offerings for families in Montgomery County, Maryland and neighboring communities. Additionally the Foundation provides higher education financial scholarships to select individuals who display the quality of character for which Patrick Shifflett was known.
Who the Foundation Works With
In order to carry out its mission, representatives from the Patrick Shifflett Foundation work with local third party education and counseling organizations to evaluate need based grant applications, and to identify resources within the local communities to provide required services. Community grant recipients must have a financial need or other significant family circumstance that would otherwise restrict their ability to receive the specified service.
Who is Awarded
In addition to community grants, scholarship grants are awarded each year to one or more students graduating from Clarksburg High School and Damascus High School in Montgomery County, Maryland. The award funds are required to be used for either higher education tuition payments, or directly related education expenses. Applicants will be evaluated based on the character qualities they exemplify.
